Protecting Yourself During the Job Search Process
When looking for a job, people often think that it is good to send lots of applications. This might be partly true for people who might be happy to work in a variety of fields.
However if you are an experienced professional, sending out too many resumes can actually be very damaging for your reputation.
Here are a few important tips to ensure that you manage your job search process safely and efficiently to maximise your chances of securing a good role.
- Do not send your resume for a role online unless you know the name of the company that you are sending it to and you know what the role is. If you do not know the company name and where it is located, you can not know whether you would even want to work there and you have no control over where your resume goes.
- If you have any dealings with another recruitment agency it is imperative to let them know that you do not want them to send your resume to anyone without them first disclosing to you the company name and obtaining your express consent. All consultants at Outfit Recruitment follow very strict procedures to ensure that your personal details are protected. Unfortunately not all agencies work that way and if you do not take control of the process some agents may apply on your behalf for jobs that you don’t even want. And what is worse about that is that it gives a bad impression to employers and makes things messy for you.
- Keep a note in your diary of each company name/ role that you have applied for. Record the date and information about how you applied (through Seek, through a friend, agent, etc). This will ensure that you know exactly who has your resume and it will also save you the embarrassment of applying for the same role twice.
If you are ever in doubt about how to manage your job search process or if you encounter a tricky situation, do not hesitate to contact your consultant at Outfit for advice. We are very experienced at what we do and we are always happy to help.
